Canadian Birth Records Retrieval

150.00

We prepare your request for Canadian birth, baptism, or vital records and, where the province or territory permits, order the certified record from the relevant vital statistics office on your behalf. Where a third party cannot order it, we prefill your forms or guide you through ordering it online yourself. You must already know where the birth took place; research and tracing are not included.

Description

Canadian Birth Record Retrieval

We help you obtain Canadian birth records from the relevant provincial or territorial vital statistics office. Where we are permitted to order the record on your behalf, we do; where the office will only release it to you directly, we prepare the request so it is simple to submit yourself. For Quebec ancestors, we can also work with baptism records, which serve as official birth records there.

What’s Included

Working from the birthplace details you provide, we prepare your record request, place it with the correct office where we are permitted to, and see it through to delivery:

  • Identifying the correct provincial or territorial vital statistics office for the birthplace you give us
  • Where we are legally permitted to order the record, submitting the official request on your behalf and handling follow-up with the issuing office
  • Where the office will only release the record to the registrant or a close relative, preparing the request for you instead: prefilling the required forms ready for your signature, or providing clear step-by-step instructions to complete the order online yourself
  • Delivery of the certified document to you once it has been issued

Important: Some provinces and territories do not allow a third party to order vital records, so we cannot always place the request for you. Where that is the case, we do all of the preparation so that submitting it yourself is quick and simple.

This service covers ordering an existing record only; it does not include genealogical research or tracing. You need to know where the birth took place (the province or territory, and ideally the town) before we begin. If the relevant provincial or county clerk cannot locate the record from the details provided, further research may be required to track it down, and that work would be quoted and billed separately.

Canadian birth records are a critical part of your citizenship certificate application. You need a birth certificate for each link in your chain of descent back to your Canadian ancestor.

Please Note: Processing times vary by province and are outside of our control. Quebec records may require baptism records in place of birth certificates for ancestors born before the 1990s.
